About Irene Gamra
I was drawn to pediatric gastroenterology for multiple reasons, including the multifaceted nature of the specialty (inpatient, outpatient and procedures), as well as the complex pathophysiology behind multiple gastrointestinal conditions. Personal life experiences also strengthened my interest in this specialty.
Today, I’m an assistant professor in the University of Florida Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology. At UF Health, I provide expert care to pediatric patients in these areas, in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
My goal as a pediatric gastroenterologist is to deliver the best quality of care to all my patients. I aim not just to treat the disease but to treat the child as a whole and to do all I can to improve their quality of life. The family is always part of the team, and parents’ involvement in their child’s care is crucial to their improvement.
After my undergraduate studies, I earned my master’s degree in public health from Mercer University School of Medicine, then went on to earn my medical degree from Morehouse School of Medicine. I completed my residency in general pediatrics with Morehouse School of Medicine at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and my fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology at Children’s of Alabama.
My clinical interests include intestinal rehabilitation, nutritional approaches to gut health, disorders of gut-brain interaction and inborn errors of metabolism. Outside of work, I enjoy exploring nature, traveling, crafts and spending time with my family.
